The best low-sodium foods for kids and adults

The best way to avoid food poisoning is to eat foods that are low in sodium, but not too low, experts say.

A recent study from the Mayo Clinic found that eating foods like spinach and parsnips, as well as low-fat milk and yogurt, helped children and adults reduce their risk of food poisoning.

The study, which was published in the journal Pediatrics, showed that children and teens who ate these foods were at much lower risk of eating food that could cause food poisoning in the future.

A similar study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in March found that children who ate low-calorie, low- sodium snacks during the day were also at much reduced risk of getting a food poisoning-related illness.

And studies from the University of Arizona and the University at Buffalo have shown that eating healthy foods can lower the risk of stomach ulcers and other food-related ailments.
